An exciting opportunity has arisen in the role of a Patient Flow Manager, within Paediatrics & Maternity at Cambridge University Hospitals, to help support patient flow throughout the seven day week.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and well organised person to work as a bed manager in an extremely fast paced moving environment. Dedicated to delivering a high standard of care you will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and develop your skills and knowledge.
You will have excellent communication skills, be able to coordinate and collate real time information on current and predicted bed availability and facilitate the effective use of acute Paediatric hospital and hostel wide bed capacity.
You will work independently, using their own initiative and judgment. This role is central to the flow of patients within the Division and meeting the national waiting times for the emergency department and elective patients.
Working hours are 07:30 - 20:30 Monday to Sunday on a shift rotation system to ensure adequate bed management cover for the department of Paediatrics and the Rosie hospital. You will have the ability to work flexibly to cover the department.
Main duties of the job
To ensure that patients are placed in the beds most appropriate for their care needs.
To build relationships with colleagues that support and enhance patient flow throughout the trust.
To facilitate the patient flow through the relevant bed capacity.
To ensure the appropriate and timely placement of elective and emergency patients, in consultation with medical/nursing staff.
To liaise with medical, surgical, nursing and clerical staff to ensure that capacity is used effectively.
To gather relevant and useful information from a variety of sources to inform operational and clinical decision making throughout the trust.
To support colleagues in the achievement of key performance targets and strategic objectives.
To ensure effective communication with fellow patient flow managers, MOTW, SCN, On Call Consultants and the Operations Centre with regard to bed capacity issues.
