Job summary
The role of the Hospital Engineer is to support the Maintenance Manager, in close cooperation with other senior Estates Engineering staff. You will be responsible for the successful on-going operation and maintenance of the Trust premises and assets with a special emphasis on ensuring statutory compliance and a suitable environment for patients, staff and visitors.
You will be educated to or working towards degree level in electrical, mechanical or building services engineering or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
You will also have engineering experience in an operational maintenance environment with a portfolio to demonstrate a proven track record and wide range of expertise, including the efficient line management of maintenance staff and activities.
Main duties of the job
The post has a number of areas of work covering specialist knowledge and management of the site. It is mechanical bias with desirable electrical knowledge to include generators, UPS, IPS, Nurse Calls.
Mechanical will involve working with HVAC, Water, Steam/pressure systems, Medical Gases, BMS (building management systems), and an element of Energy Management.
Electrical will involve electrical infrastructure (electrical systems, generator supplies, UPS/IPS) as well as joint responsibility within the team for the BMS (building management systems). Knowledge of other building services and healthcare estate functions (nurse call, Lamson tubes, etc.) will be required.
You will be expected to ensure that the Trust premises and assets are operated and maintained in accordance with the Trust's policies, DoH guidance (HTM/HBN) and industry best practice.
You will form part of a multi-disciplined team whose role is to provide the best possible service to the Trust. The Hospital Engineer will have both group and individual responsibilities for defined aspects of the service, but each will ensure their contribution is in accordance with the Estates and Facilities vision and the Trust's overall objectives.
