Job summary

As a Smoke Free Pregnancy Practitioner you will work with the Lead Treating Tobacco Dependency Specialist Midwife to deliver smoking cessation support to women within the Maternity Service at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a Fixed Term contract due to end in March 2024.

Main duties of the job

As a Smoke Free Pregnancy Practitioner you will act as a member of the care team working under the supervision and guidance of Registered Midwives and other Professional Staff. The role will require a flexible approach to care delivery, which may include visiting women in their homes, at children's centres, or within the hospital setting. Driver's licence and access to car essential for the role.

The key duties of the Smoke Free Pregnancy Practitioner will be:

Providing smoking cessation support

Delivering interventions such as Carbon Monoxide Monitoring, Nicotine Replacement Therapy and behavioural support after relevant training

Managing own clinics and caseload

Engaging with data collection and reporting

  • NVQ3 in Care or equivalent plus additional training to diploma level equivalent, or equivalent through short courses or experience
  • Proficient in the use of suite of Microsoft packages

Desirable

  • NSCST smoking in pregnancy practitioner registered
  • Accredited Health Education and Promotion qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in smoking cessation, counselling or a public health related role
  • Knowledge of relevant strategies and approaches to delivering an effective smoking cessation service
  • Up to date knowledge of effective health improvement strategies.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a Healthcare environment or for local authority services
  • Previous experience within a maternity setting
  • Experience delivering smoking cessation advice

  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of the impact smoking has on pregnancy Knowledge and understanding of NICE Guidelines
