Maternity Support Worker - Preterm Surveillance Clinic

Job summary

The Preterm Surveillance Clinic is a specialist clinic which monitors and treats woman who are at higher risk of spontaneous early preterm (premature) birth between (24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy) or late miscarriage (pregnancy loss between 14 and 24 weeks pregnancy).This clinic is led by consultant obstetricians, assisted by band 6 midwife, sonographers and MCA's. This clinic provides continuity to families with a wide range of risk factors for preterm birth, in a clinic setting

The post will involve working in a small team to aid the efficient running of the preterm surveillance clinic. The team aim to make a difference in the rates of premature births at the Rosie, identifying risk factors, monitoring by cervical sonography, and offering treatment if necessary to those at risk of preterm birth.

You will be warm and welcoming to families attending the clinic. You will work closely with the Consultants, and Midwife, with an attention to detail with Epic and Astraia documentation

You will be organised and efficient, and aid in collection, ordering, and review of clinical specimens

It is an exciting time for the clinic, with advances in Fetal Fibronectin soon to be brought in to the clinical pathway, to aid identification of those most at risk of preterm birth.

Main duties of the job

  • Working as a team liaising with consultants, sonographer, clinic midwife and MCA's
  • Be part of the team welcoming families to clinic in sensitive circumstances.
  • Chaperoning the consultants and sonographers, whilst carrying out transvaginal scans of the cervix and assisting where necessary
  • Entering results and findings from consultant/ sonographer appointment onto EPIC and Astraia
  • Handling and labelling of specimens such as MSU, LVS, fetal fibronectin
  • Requesting investigations on epic
  • To make client appointments in line with agreed care pathways and guidelines and record these in the agreed manner
  • Reviewing investigation results, and forwarding abnormal results to the midwife and consultants for timely review and treatment
  • Requesting booking of cervical cerclage removal procedure with Sara ward
  • Preparing the clinic rooms and replenishment of clinic stock.
