Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Obstetrics with a special interest in Fetal Monitoring at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

This is a (10 PA) full-time, substantive post which will increase Consultant service provision, supporting the service to meet requirements from the Ockenden review in Maternity Services.

The Directorate of Women and Children's Health is looking to appoint a substantive Consultant Obstetrician to join our team. This is a busy tertiary level unit that takes referrals from the surrounding area in both Fetal and Maternal Medicine and has one of the largest level 3 Neonatal Units in the country. By joining us, you will enhance our obstetric team who are dedicated to promoting excellence in care for women and their babies within Cambridge and across the Eastern region.

Main duties of the job

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

About us

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). Job description

Job responsibilities

We are a dynamic and forward thinking team that is keen to recruit colleagues who will work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service we provide. There are approximately 5700 deliveries annually and we aim to strengthen the provision of high risk pregnancy care and Consultant provision within our Maternity Service.

The successful candidates will work within a team of 15 Obstetricians and 11 Gynaecologists, and will participate in the out of hours services in Obstetrics only in a non-resident on-call rota. They will be expected to deliver antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to the highest standards and contribute to Consultant Delivery Unit cover (Hot Days) and a 1 in 14 on-call rota.

The holder of this post will be expected to take on the role of the Fetal Monitoring Lead for the unit, supporting the service in meeting Ockenden recommendations. We also expect the appointee to participate in MDT training and have experience in managing women with complex medical conditions, in line with our status as a regional Maternal Medicine Network Hub for the Eastern region.

There is opportunity for applicants to develop areas specific to their obstetric area of interest. We have specialist MDT clinics in Diabetes, Cardiology, Endocrine, Epilepsy, Haematology, and Renal disease. We also have specialist antenatal clinics for perinatal mental health and pre-term labour as well as our specialist Fetal Medicine Service. We are the regional unit for abnormally invasive placenta.

The appointee will be expected to participate in both undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and training within the Rosie Hospital as part of Cambridge University Hospitals.
