Job summary

The post holder will have the lead responsibility for providing specialist nursing skills, knowledge and expertise in the care and management of children and adolescents with allergies.

The post holder working closely with the medical team and other health professionals will initiate, develop and use effective approaches to meet the needs of this group of children and their families.

To lead on service delivery, working in conjunction with lead clinician, ward, community, and multi-professional teams to initiate, develop and progress care to meet the needs of children and young people with allergies ensuring they receive the highest standard of care and support.

The post holder will support the allergy service in close liaison with the lead subspecialty clinician and managing their own caseload of patients.

The post holder will advocate for children and their families, ensuring continuity of care and precise communication, monitoring service provision using a number of quality standards to improve outcomes for children and young people. Develop, facilitate and provide education and advanced clinical expertise for nursing, medical and paramedical staff through extensive knowledge of allergy care and management.

Essential

  • RGN/RSCN RN Child Branch - with current NMC registration
  • BSc or equivalent experience
  • Masters degree or Equivalent experience and prepared to work towards a masters degree
  • Non-medical prescriber - or prepared to achieve this qualification
  • Related course /recognised qualification (must have proven experience in Specialty)
  • Mentorship / teaching equivalent

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of working in an acute NHS trust.
  • Articulates understanding of NMC Code of Professional Conduct, Scope of Professional Practice and its application to clinical practice.
  • Sound clinical knowledge of current issues affecting children with allergy conditions.
  • Clear understanding of and a commitment to clinical governance.
  • Articulates understanding of relevant nursing research/evidence-based practice and can apply findings to practice
