Specialist in Geriatric Medicine

Job summary

This is a full-time substantive consultant level role which would ideally suit an individual with significant experience in geriatric medicine who is not yet on the specialist register. We would be delighted to welcome applications from individuals wishing to gain entry to the specialist register via the portfolio/CESR pathway.

The appointee will be based on a 32 bedded acute care of the elderly ward with the usual case mix of acute medical presentations. In addition the appointee will spend 3-4 sessions in the acute frailty service, supporting the frailty ACPs to assess and manage patients presenting to A&E, Same Day Emergency Care and on the caseload of the virtual ward. The timetable will include protected time for patient-related admin and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). There is no overnight on-call commitment but the appointee will be expected to participate in a 1 in 7 rota to provide a "post-take" ward round on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
