Job summary
This is a full-time substantive consultant level role which would ideally suit an individual with significant experience in geriatric medicine who is not yet on the specialist register. We would be delighted to welcome applications from individuals wishing to gain entry to the specialist register via the portfolio/CESR pathway.
The appointee will be based on a 32 bedded acute care of the elderly ward with the usual case mix of acute medical presentations. In addition the appointee will spend 3-4 sessions in the acute frailty service, supporting the frailty ACPs to assess and manage patients presenting to A&E, Same Day Emergency Care and on the caseload of the virtual ward. The timetable will include protected time for patient-related admin and Supporting Professional Activities (SPA). There is no overnight on-call commitment but the appointee will be expected to participate in a 1 in 7 rota to provide a "post-take" ward round on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

We provide acute in-patient services on an elderly care ward, ortho-geriatric services, front door frailty assessment, a virtual ward frailty pathway and out-patient clinics at the West Suffolk Hospital site. We also oversee care of intermediate care beds in the community hospital at Newmarket.
We believe in working flexibly and supporting each other to meet service needs and the personal development needs of our staff. Our priorities for the next 2 years include the establishment of our frailty hub model a comprehensive acute frailty assessment pathway to offer same day advice & assessment to community clinicians, expansion of our virtual ward pathway and using new technology to provide remote assessment of patients in care homes.
At the same time we wish to remain focussed on providing high quality care to our inpatients and their families and excellent training opportunities & support to our trainees.
