Paediatric Staff Nurse - Emergency Department

Job summary
We are looking for a passionate nurse to join our team. We aim to deliver high quality evidence-based care within our Paediatric Emergency Department and this post offers the opportunity to develop clinical, decision making and leadership skills in a friendly, supportive and encouraging environment whilst providing care to Children and Young people across the age range with a variety of illnesses and conditions including mental health, trauma, minor injuries and critically unwell children.
This is a Fixed Term position for up to 1 Year to cover Maternity Leave.
Main duties of the job
- Carries out the rapid assessment of children, identifying nursing problems and needs in conjunction with the patient and families where possible, and with appropriate members of the inter-professional team.
- Ensures the maintenance of accurate clinical observations of patients' condition and passing on of all relevant results to appropriate medical staff.
- Ensures that skilled, evidence-based care and treatment is given to children and their families, and, in accordance with their care needs.
- Ensures safe practice to minimise the risk of infection to patients and staff.
- Recognises the diverse needs of children and their families.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions and adjusts care and treatment to take account of any changing needs of the child.
- Monitor effectiveness of treatment and care with view to safe transfers to wards or high dependence areas where and when necessary
- Assesses risks to children and families that need to be managed in relation to their health and wellbeing within the scope of nursing practice.
- Works collaboratively to maintain patient flow ensuring children are nursed in the correct environment according to unit guidelines.
- Plans discharge needs of patients from admission, ensuring appropriate involvement of inter professional team and other agencies in the process.
- Able to recognise vulnerable children and adults and to respond in accordance with Trust policy.
