Phlebotomist - Antenatal Clinic

Job summary

We are seeking a passionate person, who is committed to providing quality care to pregnant women and their families, to join our dedicated healthcare team as part of our Antenatal Clinic.

The post holder will be part of the Phlebotomy/Antenatal clinic team and will take blood samples by venepuncture from inpatients and outpatients in the antenatal/gynaecology clinic department. As well as this front line clinical role, there will be opportunities to participate and provide cover for antenatal reception.

The post holder will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from inpatients and outpatients by means of venepuncture and will include associated reception tasks. The successful applicant will be able to exhibit good people and communication skills, attention to detail, manual dexterity in addition to good numeracy and literacy skills.

This is a fixed term contract position for 29 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of the Antenatal clinic/Phlebotomy team and will take blood samples by venepuncture from inpatients and outpatients at the antenatal/gynaecology clinic, West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust site. The post holder is responsible for the phlebotomy service within the antenatal clinic. The post holder has specialist knowledge in the requirements and collection of blood samples for Maternity Services. The post holder will assist midwifery and medical staff by obtaining blood samples from women / partners by venepuncture.

  • To be part of the team responsible for the collection of blood samples by venepuncture from patients served by Antenatal/gynaecology clinic, West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust - if undergoing training, the collecting of blood samples will be supervised.
  • Communication with all patients of varying needs.
  • Positive identification of patient and labelling of samples.
  • Requirement to perform phlebotomy duties at the antenatal/gynaecology department. This may include new locations within midwifery department, in the future as the phlebotomy service develops.
  • Maintains records in relation to activities carried out.
