Maternity Clinical Discharge Coordinator

Job summary

The post-holder will be managed by the Ward Manager, to ensure the patient's journey through the hospital is as smooth as possible with any unnecessary delays. This role is front of house which requires the post holder to maintain a professional and courteous manner when dealing with colleagues and members of the public.

The role of Maternity Clinical Discharge Co-Ordinator fulfils a link between Consultants, Obstetric Teams, Ward Midwifery Staff, patients and their relatives. It also provides a link between Wards and Midwifery bleep holder/ duty manager as the role communicates an immediate position on the bed occupancy on the ward and will also communicate discharge information, enabling increased medical and midwifery time to be released to spend directly with the patient. The role of the discharge Co-Ordinator has a direct impact on improving the patient journey, increasing patient satisfaction and a reduction in length of stay.

The role is ward based, the hours of work will cover daytime hoursand will be determined at ward level, but with priority to service need and circumstances specific to the individual clinical area.

  • Educated to NVQ3/Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • RSA II typing or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake or previous training/experience in certain clinical skills including but not limited to undertaking observations, venepuncture and infant feeding support and complete the care certificate within 12 weeks of starting the role (Band 2 until completed).
