Fixed Term Consultant General Paediatrician- 9PA's - 4 Months

Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Fixed Term for 4 months, 10PA's Consultant with experience in general paediatrics.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the consultant team and will cover general paediatrics and neonatal ward rounds, general paediatrics clinic and will take part in the on-call rota in General Paediatrics and Neonates.

Applicants should possess, or be within 6 months of receiving, a CCT in paediatrics.

The successful candidate will join a team of 16 Paediatric Consultants who share General Paediatric and neonatal work. There are also 4 SAS doctors, 4 Tier 2 Paediatric STs, 7 Tier 1 doctors, 2 CANPs and 2 Physician Associates on the acute paediatric rota in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialist for Epilepsy, Asthma and Diabetes and Cardiology.Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Neonatal Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme.

2. To share work related to relevant committees, working groups and training of staff within the department, particularly relating to cardiology.

Job description

Job responsibilities

There is a twelve cot Neonatal Unit (NNU) with two fully equipped intensive care costs. The NNU has been upgraded and re-equipped to provide a more efficient and comfortable working environment. The number of deliveries at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust continues to rise and is currently around 2,629 per year. The NNU is equipped with 2 Draegar patient-triggered ventilators and 4 high flow machines and nasal CPAP flow drivers, together with appropriate monitoring equipment, which includes facilities for CFM. SN Karen Ransom is the manager for the NNU.

There is close links with Level 3 Neonatal units at Rosie Maternity unit in Addenbrookes and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals.

The unit is a designated Level 1-unit (30 weeks and above) and babies born less than 30 weeks are stabilised and retrieved by the PANDR (Transport team incorporating ANTS) 24/7. PANDR also provide advice and guidance for the management of sick babies. The unit is equipped to provide high dependency for 4 babies which includes providing high flow/nCPAP, TPN, ultrasound and echocardiography. Retinopathy screening service is provided by the local ophthalmology team.
