The closing date is 01 August 2025

Job summary

At West Suffolk Hospital, our patients are at the heart of everything we do. We're dedicated to delivering the best quality and safest care to our local communities and need dedicated and skilled people to help us achieve this.

To maintain this standard, we are offering candidates the opportunity to apply for the post of Senior Pharmacy Assistant - Pharmacy Stores and be based within the Pharmacy Department at West Suffolk Hospital.

The post holder will act as area lead for Pharmacy Stores incorporating Goods-In and Bulk Fluid Supply. This is an essential role to help maintain effective and efficient supply of pharmaceuticals and critical fluids to wards and departments at West Suffolk Hospital and associated external units.

Senior Pharmacy Assistants are valued members of the team and play an important part in maintaining effective workflow and departmental efficiencies.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals to provide high-quality patient care to those that need it whilst working with an excellent and experienced team committed to its very delivery.

This position is not covered by the Health and Social Care Visa; and does not meet the requirements for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker (Tier 2) visa.

Applicants must have been ordinarily resident within the UK for 3 years, as training is funded by the UK Apprenticeship scheme.

Main duties of the job

As area lead for Pharmacy Stores, the post holder will supervise and manage Goods-In and Bulk Fluid Stores to ensure all procured pharmaceuticals, including controlled drugs, are received in a timely manner for supply to patients located both internal and external to the Trust.

The post holder will act as a point of contact for all queries, questions and concerns regarding Goods-In and communicate accordingly to necessary members of staff within Pharmacy and other areas of the hospital. Training of new or rotational staff will form an important part of the role to ensure consistent standards of quality and accuracy are maintained.

All duties must be performed to a high standard, conforming to approved departmental standard operating procedures, to ensure quality is maintained and to support operation of the medicines management service.

As a department we are forward thinking and utilise technology to increase efficiencies and reduce errors. This includes a fully electronic prescribing system for maintenance of patient records alongside use of our dispensary robot to process inpatient requests and discharge medication.

This is a great opportunity to develop your pharmacy career and make a real difference to the lives of those who need our services.
