Job summary

This permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist vacancy consists of 15 hours: Social Communication Assessment Pathway (SSCAP) & 15 hours: School Aged Complex needs pathway in Ipswich and surrounding areas.

The SSCAP role for autism assessment of children (4-12 years) involves: administering assessments of social communication in schools, clinics and preschools, multidisciplinary working, offering clinical expertise and writing reports. ADOS training is available.

The SACN role includes providing therapy, advice & assessment to children & young people (4-16 years) with moderate/severe learning disabilities in their educational setting (special schools/units). Post 16 work & home visits may also be required. Previous experience of managing CYP with Education, Health and Care Plans therefore previous experience of EHCPs is desirable.

We work collaboratively to upskill and support therapy partners, delivering workshops for schools and parents, and working alongside SLT colleagues. We promote neuro-affirmative working.

Main duties of the job

SSCAP:

Excellent understanding of differential diagnosis and co-occurring conditions that impact social communication.

Excellent understanding of the diagnostic criteria for Autism (ICD11/ DSM5)

Carry out ADOS assessments (training to be provided as needed) and share results in a report and clinical discussion.

SACN:

Plan & deliver therapy interventions based on assessment findings and communication needs

Evaluate student progress to update EHCP targets, write Annual Review reports as required

Liaise with families & carers to keep them updated and offer advice / support for communication skills and to ensure they are upskilled as therapy partners

Both:

Select, administer and successfully interpret a range of appropriate formal and informal assessments appropriate to complex paediatric client group.

Be skilled at timely, accurate written recording e.g. writing reports following assessment, EHCP advice and to keep daily, accurate records using SystmOne

Have good organisational skills to be able to manage waiting lists independently, plan sessions, re-organise

Supervise Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, NQPs and less experienced staff

Use strong personal communication skills to convey outcomes of assessment or communication targets

Take an active or delegated lead role in supporting wider service development projects

Be able to travel to other venues
