The Estates and Facilities Department are seeking a keen, driven and enthusiastic team member within this essential role.
The Estates Technician is a key role within the Estates service, providing essential maintenance, management and oversite of specialist mechanical & electrical equipment and infrastructure.
This role will form part of an established team, working with common goals and achievements to deliver a high-quality service for all.
Applicants should have a sound understanding of healthcare engineering with a track record of delivering quality maintenance and engineering advice.
The successful candidate will be integrated within a multi-disciplinary team based at the West Suffolk Hospital.
Main duties of the job
- The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating specialist engineering plant such and ventilation, sterilisation, medical gases, and electrical systems.
- Provide technical feedback and advice to senior management to enable decision making.
- Provide guidance and advice to other Estates team members.
- Form part of the Estates on call Rota delivering emergency out of hours attendance.
- Develop skills and knowledge to further improve their technical capability.
- Deputise for team leaders as required.
- Fully understand and interpret complex engineering drawings.
- Have a good understanding and operational knowledge of complex Building Management systems.

Essential
- Recognised apprenticeship in a mechanical or electrical trade
- C&G or NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
- Evidence of CPD
- BTEC, ONC/HNC in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience e.g. time served tradesman.
Desirable
- Current Competent Person certificate in various technical systems such as low voltage electrical, medical gas, decontamination, etc.
- Electrical AM2
Experience & Knowledgement
Essential
- Previous experience of working in an engineering and/or building maintenance role
- Evidence of a maintenance background with skills to carry out minor mechanical/electrical/building repairs
- Previous experience and knowledge of Database and spreadsheet systems
- Experience and Knowledge of Microsoft office programmes.
Desirable
- Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment
- To have knowledge of: Low Pressure Hot Water Systems, HTM documents including: HTM 01 Decontamination, HTM 03 Heating and ventilation HTM06 Electrical services
