Job summary

#hellomyname is Chris Giles and I am the Assistant Housekeeping Manager at the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Housekeepers are responsible for contributing to the provision of a clean, safe and comfortable environment for our patients, staff and visitors and we are looking to expand our team.

We are looking for day staff to work the following shifts:-

  • Contracted Shift 1: 7am till 3pm
  • Contracted Shift 2: 7am till midday

You are paid on a monthly basis, this post does not entitle you to guaranteed or continuous work, it is for us to determine in any one week whether you shall be called into work or not.

Whilst it would be helpful if you had experience of cleaning within a domestic or commercial environment, full induction and ongoing training will be provided. There is also the opportunity of further training and development.

Main duties of the job

General tasks

Clean/dry mop floors, spot clean floors and remove spillages.

High and low dusting

Damp dusting furniture, fixtures, fittings and ledges.

High frequency touchpoint cleans

Spot clean internal glass as necessary.

Clean Telephones

Clean wash hand basins, sinks, showers, WCs and fittings. Replenish supplies

Clean and refill soap dispensers and paper towel holders.

Collect and dispose of rubbish, clean bins

Assist with the serving of patient meals and making of patient drinks.

Routine curtain changes

Clean domestic equipment and storage areas

General tasks with further training

Use polishing/scrubbing machines for maintenance of hard floors

Use extraction machine for carpet/upholstery cleaning

Use steam cleaners as required

Use ride on cleaning equipment; sweeper, scrubber dryer, burnisher

Job summary:

The Housekeeper will contribute significantly to the provisions of a quality cleaning service on a day-to-day basis within the Trust in line with the National Specifications for Cleanliness Hospital Standards 2021 as well as Trust Policies and Procedures

Job responsibilities:

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Ensure a timely and accurate response to all cleaning requests. Assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards and infection control practices as appropriate.

To ensure that all cleaning tasks are carried out in accordance with NHS Specification of Cleanliness 2021, The Food Safety Act 1990, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any other guidelines provided by Trust.

To work with a flexible approach bearing in mind the needs of the patients and staff.

Have a good understanding of COSHH and ensure that all cleaning chemicals which may be hazardous are kept securely in storage areas when not in use. Ensure that the correct PPE is worn when preparing chemicals.

Ensure that all cleaning equipment is cleaned daily and maintained in a safe usable condition - faults must be reported to a supervisor immediately.

Attend training courses including on the job training and training in the use of specific machinery as required.

Ensure that cleaning cupboards are always kept clean and tidy.

Take instruction from housekeeping supervisor and ward manager in identifying additional cleans, such as isolation rooms and bed space terminal.

Ensure that all relevant check lists are completed and sign in a timely manner

Ensure that all refrigerated food items are appropriately labelled and stored. Alert the Ward Manager/Catering Department of any concerns. Ensure that the ward refrigerator is thoroughly cleaned weekly.

To clean non-invasive medical equipment as required in conjunction with nursing staff. Ensure that all such medical equipment e.g. hoist, slings, drip stands are kept in clean and usable condition.

Ensure hygiene standards are maintained within ward kitchen.

To remove domestic waste and clinical waste within the area and dispose of in the correct storage area/s.

To use cleaning chemical based on the appropriate cleaning regime.

To assist with the distribution of patient meals. Provide beverages to patients as per ward routine

Being courteous and helpful to patients, families, colleagues and all users and visitors to the ward.

Establish and maintain a pleasant and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff alike.
