We are looking for an individual who is interested in
urology, and want to learn more about the speciality, is keen to expand their
knowledge and is a team player.
We are responsible for the triage of patients on the
suspected prostate cancer pathway. We offer support and treatment advice to
newly diagnosed urology cancer patients in conjunction with our Urology
Consultants. Have our own nurse led clinics and offer telephone advice to
existing and pre diagnosed patients.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be offered ongoing training and
support, working towards being an independent practitioner.
You will be required to use advanced communication skills to
support patient, family and carers. Dealing with difficult and complex cancer
diagnosis. To act as an advocate for your patient.
Be involved with and working as part of the local Urology
Multidisciplinary Team.
It is important to be able to organise and prioritise your
own workload. Recognise your own limitations and seek help and advice
appropriately.
Work as part of a team, including locally and regionally. We
have ongoing contact with our colleagues in Addenbrookes, Cambridge and the
Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, our two regional centres.
Ability to learn new skills and use research
based evidence in your daily practice.

CLINICAL
To be in attendance at the giving of patient's
diagnosis, as required.
Discuss all treatment options with the patient and carers, identify
and assess the need for information, support and counselling.
Provide appropriate resources and
information to assist the patient to make an informed decision.
To act as the patient's advocate through explanation and reassurance to allay patient's anxieties and fears regarding
investigations and treatments.
To be responsible for the physical, psychological and psychosocial assessment, planning and delivery of holistic nursing
care for patients
undergoing treatment(s) for Urological
cancers.
Identify patients with physical, social
and psychological needs which
require referral to other agencies.
To provide practical information of all of the
aspects of altered body image that can be caused by urological cancers and its
treatments, e.g. surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.
To act as a key worker for patients at relevant points in the patient care pathway.
To work closely
with the urology
oncology team to ensure a seamless care pathway.
To attend weekly Urology Multi-disciplinary
Team Meetings and assist with
administration.
Provide appropriate and timely information to GPs as per national
cancer guidance.
Liaise and assist
with co-ordination of care and relevant information when patients referred
to the cancer centres for opinion or treatment.
Follow agreed National and Network Guidelines
related to urological cancers.
Maintain established Nurse Led Telephone Clinics.
Manage own/joint caseload
accepting referrals as appropriate.
Act as a point of contact for patients and their families for advice
and support.
