Are you interested in applying for a 12 month award winning development programme at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust?
We have an exciting opportunity for two nurses to apply for a Band 5 development nurse post for a secondment or fixed term period of 12 months. This development post offers the band 5 nurse the opportunity to develop and gain experience and skills in cancer nursing in order to apply for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role.
This programme has won a national Macmillan Excellence award in 2022 and has developed two band 5 nurses who have successfully applied for band 6 cancer CNS posts.
The 12-month programme consists of:
- Practice placements in Medicine, Surgery and Palliative Care.
- Completion of competencies linked to Macmillan Competency Framework
- Funded Courses including Royal Marsden Foundations in cancer Care
- Mentor support
Main duties of the job
This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for a band 5 with an interest in working with cancer patients to develop their skills and to learn about the multiple different CNS roles within the Trust.
During this year you will be given the opportunity to work within all the cancer teams in the Trust including palliative care. Your experiences will not just be limited to the clinical elements, you will spend time with the non-clinical staff that support our cancer patients and will be given the opportunity to see treatments where possible at other Trusts. You will be provided with skills and educational bases to enable you to go on to a junior CNS role.
