Are you polite, friendly and interested in people?An excellent opportunity has arisen for a band 5 staff nurse to join the Day Care Unit and Urology Treatment Suite on a fixed term basis as we expand into 7 day working. The unit has 21 trolley's with a fast high turnover of patients all undergoing day surgery.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals with an interest in providing direct patient care to a high standard. This is a busy, friendly environment where teams are required to have a pro-active approach to a rapidly changing service . You will have the opportunity to develop skills in all surgical day case specialities including covering shifts within the urology suite.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team working in a friendly multi-disciplinary environment. Good communication skills are essential as is an ability to work well independently and with others. You will have excellent nursing skills, be compassionate, flexible and a great team player.
The role will concentrate on tasks that directly support the needs of the day case patients and assist them in their journey, which includes nurse led discharge. You will be expected to deliver high quality individualised care to patients. You will also be given the opportunity to support and work alongside recovery and theatre staff.
Main duties of the job
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the unit team.
- Admission and preparation of patients for surgical procedures.
- Recovery and discharge of patients following different anaesthetics and procedures, giving accurate and essential post-op information to patients to enable them to safely and confidently care for themselves at home.
- Being proactive in recognising patients ready for discharge to utilise trolley turnover effectively.
- Effective communication should be maintained at all times.
- You will play a key role in the education, development and support of all learners and unregistered staff on the unit, and will be supported to undertake your assessor-ship training.
- Work autonomously in a nurse-led unit.
- Maintaining accurate patient records.
- To assist in ordering and maintaining the clinical area.
- Advocate for patients.
