Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to train as an Advanced Critical Care Practitioner within our Intensive Care Unit.
The successful applicant will have to commit to participating in and completing an academic and clinical training programme, leading to an MSc in Advanced Critical Care Practice and membership with FICM. Academic teaching will be delivered through Anglia Ruskin University, requiring attendance for scheduled face-to-face sessions.
There will be clinical training and learning opportunities with robust assessment of practice overseen by a nominated Consultant educational supervisor.
The post holder will be paid at band 7 whilst on the training programme. Upon successful completion of the of the programme and obtaining FICM Membership the post holder will transition onto a qualified ACCP Contract (Band 8a).
Main duties of the job
- Participate in supervised assessment and management of critically ill patients, developing skills in history taking, examination and advanced decision-making.
- Undertake supervised experience in procedural skills (e.g., vascular access, airway skills, ventilation management) with progression aligned to competency achievement.
- Support multidisciplinary ward rounds, presenting cases as training progresses.
- Escalate concerns promptly and participate in timely review of deteriorating patients under supervision
- Complete all academic components of the MSc ACCP programme.
- Build a comprehensive portfolio aligned to the FICM ACCP curriculum.
- Attend simulation, clinical skills training and mandatory teaching sessions.
- Engage in reflective practice, audits and supervised QI activity.
- Work effectively within a large MDT, learning leadership skills appropriate to advanced practice.
- Develop communication skills with patients and families in complex and sensitive situations.
- Participate in a phased introduction to the 24/7 rota, including weekends and nights when appropriate and safe.
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to governance and safety protocols.
