Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 8a Neurodevelopmental (NDD) Lead to provide clinical and operational leadership within our Paediatric Community Neurodiverse Team at James Paget Hospital.
This is a key leadership role within our newly launched Neurodevelopmental pathways, supporting the assessment and diagnosis of children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences, including autism and ADHD. The post holder will play a central role in shaping, embedding and leading high-quality, timely and equitable NDD services across the system.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Provide clinical and professional leadership for the Neurodevelopmental pathway, ensuring delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based practice.
Lead on the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of NDD assessment and diagnostic pathways.
Work collaboratively with paediatricians, psychologists, therapists, education and wider system partners to ensure integrated care.
Offer expert clinical oversight, case discussion and supervision to the multidisciplinary team.
Contribute to service planning, workforce development, performance monitoring and quality improvement.
Act as a point of expert advice for complex neurodevelopmental presentations and pathway challenges.
Support a culture of compassionate, family-centred and neuro-affirming practice.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Healthcare Professional (Psychologist, Nurse, OT, or SLT) Degree or equivalent measurable level of experience within a governance setting.
- Certificate in Management or equivalent.
Desirable
- Leadership course.
- Masters or working towards.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Expert knowledge of neurodevelopmental conditions (ASC/ADHD) and NICE diagnostic standards
- Substantial experience at Band 7 or above in a paediatric neurodiversity or mental health setting
- Experience in change management projects.
Desirable
- Training in ADOS-2 or 3Di/ADI-R assessment tools
- Experience in leading service redesign or quality improvement (QI) projects
- Experience in managing and/or coordinating governance activities
Skills, abilities and competencies
Essential
- Broad knowledge of patient care standards
- Demonstrate ability to produce reports and formulate policies
- Knowledge of External Assurance Requirements e.g. CQC, Fundamental Standards
- Awareness of the national drivers relating to clinical care and related governance
- Strong leadership ability.
