Job summary
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Paediatric nurse looking to progress their career. As a band 6 sister/charge nurse you will be responsible for supporting the senior sister and developing the paediatric ED at the James Paget Hospital. The Trust is progressive and innovative whilst being committed to supporting the needs of the service, listening to feedback and developing a specialist emergency department workforce. We are looking for an experienced, forward thinking practitioner who has excellent IT skills and good understanding of the EDIS system to record patient care, safeguarding and maintain compliance with activity and other data collection needs. You will be highly motivated, well organised, and a flexible individual who can influence practice and deliver a high quality service, helping us to achieve ED government targets.
You will be responsible for demonstrating excellent clinical outcomes, safe and effective delivery of care for the children and their family. You will need to be committed to improving their experience during their ED attendance working closely with both the ED team and linking in with the Paediatric services, implementing Trust policies and procedures, be able to act promptly on concerns and to communicate effectively and share information appropriately within a multi-agency context where collaborative working is key.
Main duties of the job
- Exercising leadership within the department in the absence of the senior sister/charge nurse, to attend meetings, as delegated in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Supervising the professional work of the nursing staff and monitoring of the same, to participate in the appraisal of staff.
- Monitoring and supporting compliance to the ED standards
- Creating the correct environmental atmosphere within which children and families are cared for.
- Improving service delivery to parents and monitoring their satisfaction and needs.
- Co-ordinating off-duty to provide adequate skill mix and taking appropriate action when short falls occur. Promote and support divisional policy on annual leave, sickness and e-roster.
- Assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in organisational responsibilities, mandatory training and record accordingly.
- Maintain safe custody of drugs and ensure that legal requirements and hospital rules regarding their administration are observed.
- Ensure equipment is in a safe working order and document accordingly.
- Enforce the uniform policy in full.
- To ensure documentation is completed in a clear and concise manner in accordance with NMC and trust guidelines.
