Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity, for an experienced photographer - preferably someone who has worked in a medical field previously.

The role will be based at the James Paget Hospital with regular patient contact and the requirement to manage sensitive situations, an interest in providing a high standard of care to patients is essential.

Main duties of the job

This post will be required to provide a comprehensive medical photography/videography service to the Consultants and staff employed by the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other identified users such as the Police, Social Work department and individual members of the public.

Job responsibilities

Taking clinical and non-clinical photographs and video recordings as requested in all areas of the Trust including wards, theatres, A&E and mortuary.

Produce digital photographs of patients for the purposes of medical treatment records, clinical audit, teaching, research, medico-legal, police evidence, and publicity purposes.

Produce digital video recordings of patients for the purposes of medical treatment records, clinical audit, medico-legal, and police evidence.

Undertake photography of patients with distressing medical conditions, non-accidental injuries, communicable diseases, debilitating disorders, major trauma, open wounds and sores, etc.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • The post holder should be competent and have a sympathetic and professional attitude to clients.
  • They should also have a smart appearance and the ability to communicate effectively with both Medical staff and members of the general public.
  • The ability to work cheerfully and effectively as part of a team, under pressure, to meet constant deadlines is essential.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in photography or equivalent and post graduate diploma, IMI PEC, or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Medical Illustration Practitioner with CAMIP.

Desirable

  • Degree or HND in photography.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 1-2 years working in a department of Medical Illustration.
  • Experience in clinical, ward, theatre, mortuary photography and Public Relations photography.
  • Scanning and editing of digital images using appropriate software packages.

Desirable

  • 3 years' experience with above plus clinical photography experience.
  • Some experience with Ophthalmic photography.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Good skills in Adobe/Word software packages - Photoshop, Word, Excel etc.
  • Committed to CPD and PDP
  • Membership of professional body (IMI)
  • Conscientious, communication skills, self-motivation, computer literate, able to work as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience of training/upskilling staff.
  • Has previous experience of CPD & PDP, photographic skills used in Medical Illustration.
  • Knowledge of professional protocols and procedures such as Caldicott, Informed Patient Consent, confidentiality, copyright etc.
