Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior nurse with experience of cancer services to lead the transformation of cancer care at the James Paget Hospital. Well-developed communication skills are key to leading changes alongside nursing, medical, AHP and operational colleagues. You will be supported by the senior Executive team and work closely with the Cancer Manager and the Lead Cancer Clinician.
The role involves system working with primary and community care colleagues, plus working collaboratively with other Trusts within the ICS, the Cancer Alliance and the charitable sector. You will work closely with our patient representative groups, collaboratively working on influential work streams.
- The post holder will provide professional nursing advice and leadership to support the implementation and monitoring of the Cancer Strategy.
- The post holder will ensure that all aspects of cancer service delivery are underpinned by patient and service user experience. Working closely with the patient experience leads, the Lead Cancer Nurse will lead on cancer patient experience.
- In collaboration with the cancer leadership team identify and implement the National priorities and guidance for cancer service, co-ordinating their development and trust wide implementation.

Main duties of the job
- Professional lead to the JPUH cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists and AHPs
- Working collaboratively with cancer patient representatives
- Building a cancer strategy across all partners for JPUH
- Fulfilling the Long Term plan through cancer projects with the Cancer Alliance and the ICS. Including:
- Developing Cancer Workforce workstreams
- Establishing the Cancer Care Navigator service
- Continuing and developing further Personalised Care
- Implementing Psychological support work streams
- Working collaboratively with JPUH Directors to implement Optimal Timed Pathways
- Implementing action plans from annual National Cancer Patient Experience survey

- To provide guidance, support and professional leadership to all nursing staff in with regards to cancer service provision.
- Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of a high quality, patient centred cancer services across the Trust that meet the needs of the patient.
- To act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership for relevant clinical areas, maintaining high visibility through undertaking activities such as clinical practice or observations of care.
