Job summary

Waste Porters are responsible for collecting and disposing of all clinical and non-clinical that the James Paget Hospital generates on a daily basis.

A Waste Porter will collect waste on shifts covering 06:00-14:00, 14:00-22:00 and 22:00-06:00, 365 days per year.

A Waste Porter is required to operate an electric tow truck as part of these duties and wear all appropriate PPE, both of which are provided by the Trust.

Main duties of the job

1. Responsible for the collection of all waste from the hospital wards and Departments.

2. Disposing of larger hospital items into skips.

3. Operation of the waste compactors.

4. To collect full sharps container and supply wards with empties.

5. Prepare all sharps transporters ready for contractor collection.

6. To ensure clean and dirty waste compound are secure and have appropriately stored waste bins.

7. To ensure all full clinical waste bins are exchanged for clean and lockable empty bins.

8. Operational an electric tow truck and handheld tow machine around the hospital corridors.

9. Responsible for the collection of all soiled linen from the hospital Wards and Departments.

10. Cleaning of waste disposal Tug and trailers.

Cleaning around the waste compactor and soiled linen area.

12. Adhering to all health and safety risk assessment, confidentiality regulations and with all local Trust policies.

To be compliant on all mandatory training.

14. Any other duties, which may be requested by the waste team leader or Waste Service management team.

Essential

  • Four GCSEs grade D or above including Maths and English

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence

Knowledge and Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of waste management
  • Experience Warehousing Operation such as collections and deliveries
  • Driving experience in cars, small vans and other vehicles
  • Experience in basic computer and office based programs.
