Job summary

  • To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to deliver a high standard of Family Centred Care.
  • Care for patients requiring Intensive Care (short term), High Dependency and Special Care.
  • To create a culture of continuous quality improvement through audit, learning from complaints and patient/family feedback.
  • To promote a friendly and supportive environment for parents and relatives in which they can learn to care for their babies in preparation for discharge.
  • To be an advocate for the babies and to promote effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary team including parents.
  • Regular participation in ward meetings.

Main duties of the job

We have the facilities to stabilise babies prior to transfer for further Intensive Care. We also provide Transitional Care for 6 babies on the Postnatal Ward.

The post holder will provide care for patients and their families on the Neonatal Unit and Transitional Care following competency based learning.

The post holder will be a Registered Children's Nurse, Registered Adult Nurse or Registered Midwife and will provide family centred care for our patients and their families, following competency based learning. You will need to have at least 2 years of Neonatal expereince, and be commited to undertaking and completeing the Neonatal QIS course withinn 3 years of joining the team. The post holder will need to be flexible to the needs of the Neonatal and Paediatric service.

The role will give the post holder experience of working in a small but busy Neonatal Unit and there will be further opportunities to develop the role further depending on experience and interests.

The post holder will be expected to attend all mandatory training and all relevant training for neonatal care including: Baby Friendly Breastfeeding course, Neonatal Netwrok study days, Newborn Life Support course (if not already completed), IV training updates and mentorship training.

About us

The Neonatal Team is made up of Nurses, Nursery Nurses, Ward Clerk and a Hosuekeeper. There is a large Medical team, who work cross all areas of Paediatrics. An expereinced group of AHP's also visit the Unit regularly to provide supportive care for the babaies and families, including Physios, Speech and Language and Hearing Screeners. The Unit works closely with the Maternity team to ensure seamless and safe care from delivery.
