Job summary

To undertake and complete a year's training programme in mammography in preparation for working at a Band 6 level where this is not held already.To ensure that the highest standards of patient care and breast imaging aredelivered within the resources available to the department.

To work closely with other professionals within the clinical team to ensure that the Breast Imaging service is of the highest standard possible.To provide imaging for both the NHS Breast Screening Programme and the Breast Symptomatic Service

The Hologic Dimension equipment in the department is fully equipped with tomosynthesis, both of the machines are also able to support stereotaxis and tomo biopsy as well. This ensures we have maximum flexibility in the provision of our service. We have also been blessed with the Brevera biopsy system enabling us to image specimens for calcification as the procedure is undertaken. This enables us to complete the procedure more quickly and to inform pathology which sampleshave the calcifications in.

We undertake the majority of our localisations using Magseeds thereby reducing the length of time that our patients need to be at the hospital on the day of their surgery. As a consequence of this theatres are more efficientleading to acost saving for the hospital as a whole.

To participate in a flexible working pattern in order to meet working demands, in particular to be prepared to participate in evening/weekend lists if required.

To be able to rapidly assess patient personality type and respond accordingly to relevant clinical history within time allowed, while also explaining the procedure, gaining consent, informing and advising the patient occasionally in the screening environment but especially during assessment and diagnostic sessions where there are raised expectations of a diagnosis of breast cancer

To take responsibility for own actions whilst working alone but integrate into an efficient working team when required.

Our radiographers are fully involved in the patient pathway enabling us to provide continuous patient care. It also enables our staff to work closely with our radiologists providing a solid ground for future advanced practice.

You could be working on the screening van in the community, screening in the hospital setting, imaging patients who have concerns with their breast health (symptomatic service), imaging women called back from breast screening and supporting women undergoing biopsies. All in one week!

Have good understanding of, NHSBSP guidelines andquality standards to work to national and local protocols and procedures, but to contribute to modification and improvements to protocols and procedures.
