Job summary

Provision of adequate manual handling training is an absolute legal requirement laid out in Health and Safety at Work (Etc.) Act 1974, Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.

The manual handling team's function is to ensure JPUH NHS Trust meet this training requirement for all employees in respect of people handling, across all departments.

The purpose of this role is to assist and support the Back Care Adviser with the co-ordination, provision and delivery of an effective high quality Manual Handling training service ensuring compliance with the relevant current best practice standards and legislation.

Office / Training Room based providing training and demonstration of safer manual handling techniques.

Main duties of the job

  1. Assist with devising, delivery and evaluation of manual handling training programmes to all new and existing employees, ensuring that a consistent approach to manual handling training is promoted in line with legislation and management of risk.
  2. To promote a minimal handling approach and safe manual handling practice.
  3. To provide specialist support, advice and feedback to all departments and communicate with managers regarding any concerns arising from training or workplace visits.
  4. To provide competent risk assessment advice, guidance and support to all departments in regard to moving and handling work activity in accordance with current best practice.
  5. Support the Back Care Adviser with continuous monitoring and review of standards in all areas of manual handling training and practice.

  • Recognised, relevant healthcare qualification including wide practical experience of Manual Handling

Desirable

  • A post-basic course in providing training or coaching including an element of teaching.

Experience and knowledge

  • A practical problem solving approach to moving and handling issues
  • Good knowledge base of legislation that underpins all aspects of people moving and handling and the risk assessment process required

Desirable

  • Understanding of moving and handling equipment and ergonomic changes required to minimise risks to staff.

  • Confident in the use of computer based systems
