Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, and forward-thinking senior nurse leader to join the Urgent and Emergency Care Division as the Divisional Nursing Director.
This pivotal role provides strategic, professional, and operational leadership across a fast-paced and high-acuity division encompassing Emergency Medicine, Same Day Emergency Care, Acute Medicine, and associated urgent care pathways.
As Divisional Nursing Director, you will hold overall responsibility for the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate nursing care across all UEC services. You will provide visible leadership, professional oversight, and assurance, working closely with the Divisional Triumvirate to drive performance, patient experience, workforce development, and continuous improvement.
You will lead and develop the nursing leadership team--including Matrons, Lead Nurses, and Advanced Practice leaders--ensuring professional standards, clinical governance, and regulatory compliance are met and continually enhanced. In addition, you will drive transformation across urgent care pathways and support system-wide collaboration to improve patient flow and outcomes.
This role requires a strong, resilient, and innovative leader with exceptional communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to influence and inspire teams across a complex environment.
Main duties of the job
As a senior member of the divisional leadership team the post holder:
- To deputise for Divisional Nursing Director, specifically the Nursing elements of the role and carry corporate and professional responsibility and accountability for nursing services within defined Clinical Business Units (CBUs) across UEC Division.
- To support and contribute to the development and review of Nursing Services' business strategy with the Divisional Leadership team addressing and meeting the needs of the public service's commissioners with the Board's vision and priorities.
- Supporting the Chief Nurse with the delivery of the wider corporate professional agenda, including the development of innovative strategies for nursing to enable a strong and empowered workforce at all levels that is fit for purpose and equipped to deliver excellence in care standards, including securing the workforce for the future.
- To be professionally and managerially accountable for the Matrons/Lead Nurses within Medicine
- The portfolio will include the transformation and development of nursing services within Urgent & Emergency Care working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure all KPI's are met.
- To professionally support the wider nursing staff across the Division - with particular reference to the wards.
- Take part in the Senior Manager On call rota
- To hold financial oversight and accountability for the nursing budgets, nursing financial improvement plans and delivering the divisional CIP.
