Paediatric Respiratory Nurse - Peterborough/Huntingdon

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric respiratory nursing team, supporting children attending outpatient appointments, performing respiratory investigations andcommunicate condition-related information to the child and family. This role will require the post holder to support respiratory patients at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The post holder will be supported with full orientation to both sites as well as educational opportunities and liaising with colleagues in the East of England network. The paediatric respiratory team currently is supported by 3x Consultants and 2x Band 7 specialist nurses cross-site.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the children's respiratory nursing team, this role focuses on the provision of direct care to children and their families in an outpatient and clinic environment. The post holder will work with children and young people with varying respiratory needs.The post holder will be an advocate for children and their families, promoting child focussed, family-centred care and facilitate effective liaison with the multi-professional team involved with the child's care. The post holder will act as a role model in the delivery of patient care and support and teach staff contributing to the development of the service. They will identify specific needs in education of patients, relatives and staff and facilitate meeting these requirements while offering an individualised service that respects the many cultural and spiritual backgrounds of our families.

  • Registered Children Nurse
  • Willingness to work towards relevant respiratory modules at degree or master's level and qualifications such as the spirometry ARTP
  • Recognised relevant post graduate education at level 6 or above
  • Awareness and implementation of evidence-based guidelines

Desirable

  • Understanding of relevant investigations and their interpretation e.g spirometry and lung function testing
  • Willingness to work towards and undertake non-medical prescribing course

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years working in an acute paediatric setting
  • Awareness and knowledge of safeguarding procedures

Desirable

  • Involvement in quality improvement initiatives
  • Experience of paediatric nursing in an outpatient setting

  • Good communication skills and awareness of professional responsibilities
