Locum Consultant Haematologist

Job summary

This is a 12 month fixed term full-time post based at both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, which is part of North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust which was formed in April 2017 following a merger of Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Hinchingbrooke Healthcare Trust.

The post holder will be expected to provide sessions at both hospitals to deliver Outpatient clinics, Day Unit, and Inpatient care of patients with both malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders. Duties will include offering Consultative Haematology services to other hospital clinicians and general practitioners and to provide Laboratory Haematology cover.

Main duties of the job

To join a busy and innovative department and Haematology team and provide clinical haematology care in the outpatient, inpatient and day unit setting. Support the management of patients in MDT. Work with colleagues within the trust and primary care to ensure timely care of patients. The role also includes laboratory responsibilities, support for clinical governance and audit, and education and training.

The appointee will have the opportunity to revise their job plan in consultation with consultant colleagues. The job plan equates to 9 PAs (7.5 Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities). The DCC includes participation on the acute haematology on call rota which is currently a 1:7 rota.

At present, all consultant haematologists treat the full range of haematological conditions.

There will be a 1 in 7 on-call commitment for both Laboratory and Clinical Haematology at NWAFT.   • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Possession of both FRCPath or equivalent and MRCP or equivalent qualifications
