Job summary
This exciting opportunity to join our Respiratory Investigations team comes as part of the recruitment drive in readiness for the opening of the Peterborough Community Diagnostic Centre in October 2026. Once open, the role will be based from the CDC however will involve some rotation through both Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon.
As the Chief Respiratory Physiologist, you will be responsible for performing and reporting a wide range of respiratory investigations in conjunction with the medical team where necessary. You will also be responsible for line managing and providing training to the team of respiratory investigations staff at the CDC.
In 2024 the Respiratory Investigations team performed over 14,000 diagnostics across the NWAFT footprint: Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital, and Doddington Community Hospital. The planned expansion to the purpose-built Peterborough Community Diagnostic Centre in October of 2026 will significantly increase throughput and improve patient experience and wait times.
Our team comprises of ARTP & AHCS accredited clinical staff, you would be working with them to provide testing and reporting services, and offer guidance and advice for clinicians and patients. As part of your role you would be supporting the Head of Respiratory Investigations and deputise for them on occasion.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain current AHCS registration as a highly specialised respiratory physiologist.
- Manage the team of respiratory investigations staff at the CDC in line with Trust policy and guidance, including matters of performance/capability, behavioural issues, sickness, and training.
- Assessment, prioritisation & planning of appropriate examinations and diagnostic testing for the CDC in conjunction with the Head of Respiratory Investigations.
- Using in-depth, detailed analysis and interpretation of a range of clinical and technical data, the post holder will independently provide a factual report for diagnostics performed personally and where necessary by others within the Trust and in the primary care setting.
- Supervise and support staff in training within the department and on student clinical placements.
- Communicate and liaise with the multidisciplinary team to promote effective and quality care.
