North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust

Critical Care & Surgery Therapy Service Lead

The closing date is 16 September 2025

Job summary

Due to a forthcoming retirement of the current post holder a vacancy has arisen for a Band 8A Physiotherapist in the Critical Care and Surgery Therapy Team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT).

This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week post plus additional weekend and on-call duties. It is a mixed clinical, strategic and budget holder post for a therapy team covering critical care, medical respiratory patients (both in-patients and outpatients), cardiology and surgery. The team is a mixture of registered occupational therapists and physiotherapists from Bands 5-7 and support staff bands 3 and 4. The team is part of a wider Rehabilitation Department with therapy specialities spread across the Trust sites.

The service itself is very varied in nature both in acuity and complexity of patients and requires excellent therapeutic skills and communication from all its staff, not least the Lead post communicating appropriately with senior figures both with NWAFT and the local health economy to achieve the best outcomes for the patients within the area cared for by the team and the wider rehabilitation service.

The successful post-holder must have excellent acute respiratory physiotherapy skills appropriate to working on a general adult Critical Care Unit as well as with general medicine and acute rehabilitation patients.

Interviews for this role will be conducted in person to assess relevant skills effectively.

They will assess and treat a specialist complex caseload of patients. They will lead on service development, audit and research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence based care.

The post holder must be an active participant in the on-call respiratory physiotherapy out of hours rota with the same frequency as others fulfilling this rota.
