Acute Kidney Injury Specialist Nurse - Peterborough

Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has the energy and drive, together with extensive experience as registered nurse with a background in acute renal care, to fulfil the role of acute kidney nurse specialist.

You will work with and be supported by the Matron, Renal Consultants and Operational Manager to shape and set up this service which will include: proactive working across the organisation on reducing the incidents/impact of AKI as well as reactive to the daily needs of the AKI inpatient population. The role works closely with the rostered consultant nephrologist but is independent and autonomous with its own daily workload.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Specialist Nurse is responsible for the provision of specialist nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary renal team. The post holder will provide leadership and demonstrate expert knowledge and high standards of clinical practice, with the role of improving the management of patients with AKI. In partnership with the multidisciplinary team, they will be responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, clinical staff and patients. The post holder will continue to develop the AKI service to meet service needs and to improve the patient experience.

The role includes planning and delivering education on AKI and delivering training to all members of staff who may be involved in the care of patients with AKI. The post holder will act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership. They are required to undertake research and lead clinical audits to improve practice to ensure effective evidence-based practice.
