Are you ready to lead and inspire in the specialist field of diabetes in pregnancy? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Outpatient Services Midwifery team at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust as aMidwifery Team Leader for the Diabetes in Pregnancy service.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Midwife passionate about delivering high standards of care for women whose pregnancies are affected by diabetes. You will play a pivotal role in coordinating and developing this specialist service, driving evidence-based practice to meet national standards and align with maternity safety agendas.

  • Proven experience in antenatal services.
  • In-depth knowledge of managing care for women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • A commitment to service development, quality improvement, and research initiatives, including alignment with the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle (v5).

Main duties of the job

As the Diabetes Midwifery Team Leader, you will:

  • Coordinate and lead care delivery for women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes, ensuring personalised and safe care plans.
  • Manage the diabetes team to deliver on national, regional, and local priorities for diabetes prevention and management.
  • Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to support positive pregnancy outcomes.
  • Lead face-to-face clinics, manage a caseload, and provide education to both staff and patients.
  • Navigate care pathways, plan for pregnancy, labour, and birth, and present at MDT meetings.
  • Utilise technology to support virtual and in-person care settings.
  • Audit service performance and maintain the diabetes database to ensure continuous quality improvement.

  • Leadership course or equivalent experience
  • Management course

Desirable

  • Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training
  • To have completed a recognised University module in diabetes - Level 7 master's or equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of care delivery across MDTs and complex pathways
  • Significant ANC experience at both management and clinical level
  • Experience of working with the Diabetes Team
  • Knowledge of current screening processes for Diabetes and diagnostic values
  • Knowledge of Nice Guideline (2015) Diabetes in Pregnancy
  • Knowledge of all diabetes related local policies
  • Knowledge of hypo/ hyper glycaemia and treatment options
  • Experience of case loading care for a cohort of patients
  • Experience of designing and delivering teaching
