The John Van Geest Unit is a 22-single-bedded step-down ward providing ongoing medical care to patients transferred from Peterborough City Hospital. Our patients are often elderly and frail, with a mix of diagnoses and co-morbidities. Therefore, we are looking for someone with experience in working with frail, elderly patients in a variety of settings, and who brings a compassionate and kind approach to patient care.
We are looking for visionary nurses who can help us continue to develop and improve our services.
Professional development is central to this role. We will provide:
Leadership, teaching, and mentorship training.
Support to develop both your clinical skills and those of your team members.

Main duties of the job
In this role, you will demonstrate:
Strong acute clinical skills and expertise.
Ability to make confident clinical decisions and create tailored care plans.
Work autonomously without supervision overnight.
As a Clinical Champion, you will:
o Act as a role model, taking a lead role in coordinating patient care and ensuring a secure, caring environment for our patients.
o Advocate for patients, challenging and questioning senior leadership when necessary to ensure better decision-making and patient care.
o Deputise for the Ward/Department Manager when required, ensuring the smooth running of the ward.
o Coordinate patient care, ensuring safe working levels and appropriate skill mix across shifts. o Collaborate effectively with all disciplines, maintaining high standards of care for patients, their families, and carers. o Take responsibility for critical clinical decision-making, providing guidance, delivering care, or referring onward as appropriate. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our team delivers the highest standards of care, efficiently managing resources, and working in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.About us
