Job summary

The housekeeper will work as a member of the Haematology/Oncology team; with responsibility for housekeeping tasks within the Woodlands Centre, at the same time they will provide an essential link between the Unit and hospital support services.

Main duties of the job

Are you a caring and compassionate individual with excellent communication skills and are dedicated to giving patients an excellent experience whilst they are in our care?

The main focus of this role is to ensure that all patients have access to food and drink in a timely manner.

The post will also involve ensuring the ward is a well stocked and tidy, and ordering through our internal and external systems.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the friendly and supportive team on Woodlands Centre. As a key member of staff you will be vital to the day to day running of the ward and be well supported bythe team.

Please note that this is a part time job 22.5 hours/week.

Flexible working time arrangements can be made for the right candidate.

Working hours would be within 8:00 - 18:00 Monday - Fridays with exception of Bank Holidays

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Ward Responsibilities

1. Responsible for meeting and greeting new patients/visitors to the Unit, ensuring they have up to date knowledge of planned patient flow and patient requirements relating to fluid, nutrition etc.2. Ensure a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness is maintained in all parts of the unit, and report identified problems to the senior nurse.3. Ensure the unit is tidy at all times; deal with emergencies, spots, spills, floods.4. Ensure that patient lockers, tables, chairs and ward/unit equipment are checked for integrity of fabric and cleaned on a regular basis.5. Cleaning of specialist equipment according to local policies. e.g. drip stands, infusion pumps, observation machines, O2 & suctions, crash trolley, ECG monitor in conjunction with Domestic cleaning provider.6. Ensure appropriate post infectious cases cleaning/decontamination is carried out in accordance with local policy.7. Ensure that there is an adequate supply of linen and that linen is stored in a tidy and appropriate manner.8. Work with other members of the unit Team to ensure adequate supplies of stationery; undertaking photocopying of local documents, policies and procedures when requested.9. Receive, unpack, check and put away stores and medical sundries.10. Ensure that storage areas are clean and tidy.11. Liaison with Haem/Onc Unit PCH in the event of low levels of supplies where appropriate.12. The monitoring of unit equipment safe storage/tracking/liaison with TSS.Ensure that all malfunctioning equipment is identified and reported.13. Liaise with facilities department to report/follow up on any 'works orders'.14. Collection/delivery of emergency supplies/specimens/documentation to variousdepartments, of TTOs from Pharmacy and the transportation of patients tovarious locations within the Trust in the absence of normal portering services.15. Ensure that the relevant departments are informed when rented equipment is no longer required, and that this information is acted upon e.g. pressure relieving mattress.16. Ensure that mattress turning/rotation is carried out and audited on a regular basis working closely with relevant staff and departments17. To complete all the appropriate training as set out in the agreed trainingprogramme.

Catering Responsibilities

18. Take overall responsibility for the tidiness/cleanliness of the unit kitchen including drinks trolleys and dishwasher.19. Maintain kitchen stock levels and monitor the storage of supplies to safeguard correct stock rotation.20. Distribute menus, assist/guide patients with their menu choices and ensure that menu cards are returned to the catering department.21. Ensure that the temperature inside the refrigerator is checked and maintained in accordance with local policy, and that appropriate written records are maintained.22. Ensure that all refrigerated food is stored and labelled correctly, discarding food that is out of date. Participate in environment audits as appropriate23. Prepare areas where food and beverages are served /consumed to ensure a pleasant environment at meal times.24. Coordinate the delivery and collection of meal trays.25. To ensure that the appropriate level of support is given to an individual to enable him/her to eat the meal that has been served e.g. removal and or loosening of food lids, ensuring that specialised cutlery/crockery is available, chopping food into manageable pieces/ provide/arrange additional assistance as required.26. Prepare, assemble, present and serve hot/cold snacks & beverages and ensure that equipment is cleared away appropriately.27. In conjunction with Catering department present food and beverages for serving, ensuring that food and beverages are served at the correct temperature according to food hygiene regulations. Participate in relevant audits.28. Wash all equipment /utensils for serving and consuming food and beverages as per local policy.29. Liaise with qualified unit staff regarding dietary feedback and complete documentation as appropriate within scope of the role.30. Ensure that water jugs are washed and replenished as required.31. Ensure drinks trolley is deep cleaned on a regular basis as identified.
