Job summary

We are looking for an ambitious, highly skilled senior pharmacist to take up a departmental senior leadership role managing the Clinical Education pharmacy team across all Trust sites. You will be leading and managing the strategic development of clinical education, with support from a range of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and will lead, develop strategy and quality assure programmes to ensure a consistent and integrated approach to advanced pharmacist practice education and training across sites and will be responsible for providing professional leadership, together with expertise, advice and support.

You will need an excellent clinical knowledge base, possess significant and proven leadership, project and change management skills and have an ability to build effective relationships and influence prescribing practice at a senior level.

As the post-holder you will be expected to participate in the weekend, bank holiday and on-call rotas.

Main duties of the job

Leading the development and operational performance of a comprehensive and high-quality clinical medicine and therapeutics education and training programme for all pharmacy staff and members of the multidisciplinary team in-line with national standards.

Making a significant contribution to the delivery of corporate, divisional and departmental operational and strategic priorities and to the modernisation of pharmaceutical education and training services across the Trust.

Actively representing education and training developments as a member of the senior leadership team and deputising for the Chief Pharmacist and members of the pharmacy senior management team at departmental, divisional and Trust meetings as required.

Leading site planning and implementation of innovative education and training programmes in liaison with regional and national educational bodies to support cost-effective, patient-focussed service provision, including e-learning. Delivering advanced clinical services to an assigned clinical speciality utilising non-medical prescribing qualifications.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is employed by NWA and will be required to travel between all NWA sites.

Take professional responsibility for the operational and financial management, strategic development and delivery of a comprehensive education and training programme for pharmacy staff and the wider multidisciplinary team on all aspects of clinical medicine and therapeutics.

To be accountable for the trainee pharmacists training programme under the General Pharmaceutical Council through the Advanced Pharmacist Clinical Education and to be an Educational Supervisor for post-graduate clinical diploma students. To be accountable for the postgraduate diploma & advanced curriculum training programme. To be accountable for developing and directing the activities of Designated Prescribing Professionals within the pharmacy workforce through the Advanced Pharmacist Clinical Education .

To be accountable for the delivery of education and training for registered and student pharmacy technician and support workers through the Principal Technician Education.

Ensure a training plan, with agreed competencies and timeframes is completed and regularly reviewed for each student through designated mentors/Educational Supervisors across all courses.

To lead the development, delivery and review of medicine training packages for the Trust including medical and nursing pharmacy induction and update programmes liaising with the Trust educational leads in all specialities to ensure the quality and tailoring of services.

To undertake training needs analysis in line with departmental, divisional and Trust objectives and underpin changes to the organisation and methods of working by ensuring that the relevant skills escalator is in place.

Take an active role in ICB, regional and national education networks with pharmacists specialising in education and training to ensure leading edge practice. Establish and develop effective liaison with local, regional and national educational establishments able to support the continued development of the service.

Lead and support the delivery of assigned workstreams within the departmental service improvement programme.

Provide expert education and training service information to the senior pharmacy management team, division and Trust to support departmental operational service development and strategic planning.

Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist at departmental, divisional, and Trust meetings as required.
