The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department of Northwest Anglia NHS Foundation Trust serves a catchment population of approximately 700,000. The IBD Clinical Nurse Specialist will be led by an IBD Lead nurse and will be part of a growing team. The IBD team work alongside the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Consultants, Hepatology Clinical Nurse Specialists, ward teams as well as other clinical colleagues across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), working autonomously and in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals ensuring the IBD service maintains a consistent high standard contributing to the improved outcomes for patients with IBD.

To perform at specialist enhanced practitioner level, facilitating early assessment, supporting diagnosis and prompt treatment of patients presenting to Northwest Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with IBD to facilitate care provision within the inpatient/outpatient setting, admission avoidance, timely discharge and ensure that management is in line with evidence-based guidelines. The main responsibilities of the role will be related to clinical expertise within IBD, with an emphasis on initiating, performing and maintaining standards of clinical excellence. The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.
