Job summary

We are looking for a registered (HCPC/VCRT) radiotherapy dosimetrist to join our radiotherapy planning team at Peterborough City Hospital. Established now for almost thirteen years, PCH radiotherapy department prides itself on delivering advanced technical radiotherapy to give our patients the very best outcomes.

Our department is equipped with three Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators. We have a Canon Aquilion large-bore CT scanner, and ProSoma virtual simulation and outlining. Our Eclipse v16 treatment planning system is equipped with state-of-the-art treatment planning capabilities, including RapidPlan, Multi-Criteria Optimisation and GPU calculations. We have recently commissioned MVision AI autocontouring.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support in all areas of treatment planning.

RapidArc is utilised for all suitable clinical sites, as is daily online IGRT, and 4DCT and DIBH breast treatments are in routine use. Our department has been paperless from the beginning. As well as providing top-class service to our patients, we are actively involved in research and development projects and national clinical trials. We are commissioned to deliver SABR for lung and oligometastatic disease.

Supervision of junior dosimetry staff working in the treatment planning area.

Liaison with clinicians, physicists, therapy radiographers and technical staff to ensure a seamless production and transfer of treatment planning data.

Provision of highly complex clinical technical advice to Oncology clinicians and radiographers for complex, multifactorial problems which directly impact upon patients treatments.

Essential

  • Qualified Clinical Technologist or Therapy Radiographer with VRCT or HCPC registration
  • BSc Degree in Radiography, Radiotherapy Physics, or equivalent level of knowledge

Desirable

  • MSc Degree in Radiography, Radiotherapy Physics, or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Experience of publishing or presenting scientific work

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the use of specialist software for the planning of very complex, patient-critical radiotherapy
  • Experience in the use of specialist testing equipment employed to measure the performance and safety of very complex, patient-critical radiotherapy equipment

Desirable

  • Experience of advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, and IGRT

Skills / Knowledge

Essential

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of the physics of ionising radiation with specific application to radiotherapy treatment planning
  • Extensive knowledge of the techniques employed to produce and check radiotherapy treatment plans
