Job summary
The Early Pregnancy and Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit (EPAU/EGAU) have an exciting opportunity for an experienced gynaecology nurse to join this small, friendly passionate team as a Nurse Specialist.
The post holder will be required to cover a 7 day week flexible shift pattern including weekends and bank holidays.
Please be aware, at present the unit working hours are Monday-Friday 0800-1800 and weekends and bank holidays 0800-1200. However, these working hours may change in the future to improve the service.
EGAU is based at Peterborough City Hospital but has a satellite early pregnancy unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and the successful candidate would be expected to work cross site to cover the service. There is also an expectation to support other gynaecology and Trust units if required.
EGAU runs a telephone triage service for women with early pregnancy problems under 16 weeks gestation and those with emergency gynaecology problems, as well as offering ambulatory procedures such as catheter trials, hyperemesis treatment and abortion procedures.
The successful candidate would need to be pro-choice.
Main duties of the job
Work as a specialist practitioner to ensure the service is planned, monitored, delivered and evaluated in accordance with evidence based practice
Provide clinical leadership and be responsible for the Unit, in the absence of the Lead Nurse. This includes taking charge of the Unit, co-ordinating, delegating and then continually re-assessing the workload and priorities of each section of the department, whilst supporting/managing the junior clinical and administrative staff
Provide managerial support including appraisals, healthrosters, clinic templates
Work together with the unit sister and lead nurse in developing and implementing the operational business plans for EGAU
