The Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit (EGAU) offers same day emergency (SDEC) and ambulatory emergency care (AEC), meaning patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time. This benefits patients with a quicker diagnosis and treatment by specialist staff, as well as reduces waiting times, hospital admissions and improves patient flow within our Trust.
EGAU also incorporates the early pregnancy (EPU) and abortion services up to 16 weeks gestation at Peterborough City Hospital with a satellite service at the Hinchingbrooke site. The successful applicant will be required to support with clinical shifts, work across both sites and must support pro-choice.
A varied and wide nursing knowledge base and relevant clinical experience is essential. Your ability to use your nursing expertise, along your strong leadership, ability to adapt to ever changing clinical situations will be key to your success.
The successful candidate should be able to undertake gynaecology/early pregnancy ultrasounds and local anaesthetic miscarriage treatments (or be willing to undergo the training to achieve accreditation in both within an agreed timeframe).
Working hours are predominantly Monday to Friday but may change in the future with 7-day working.
Main duties of the job
The EGAU Clinical Nurse Specialist will play a key role in supporting SDEC and AEC by co-ordinating pathways between hospital departments, streamlining patient journeys, triaging, assessing, planning and initiating appropriate tests.
Perform gynaecology ultrasound scanning, speculum examinations and local anaesthetic miscarriage surgeries.
Act as an expert resource
Provide clinical leadership and manage the clinical areas within their sphere of responsibility including the recruitment and development of staff to ensure quality driven compassionate care is upheld within the service.
To provide leadership to junior colleagues within their area of work
The post holder will be an advocate for patients and promoting patient centred care and act as a resource for nursing teams.
Work alongside the EGAU/WHW Manager to review, develop and champion the emergency gynaecology, early pregnancy and termination of pregnancy services
