As a Specialist Grade Doctor, you will provide Anaesthetic Services for routine and emergency surgeries, Orthopaedic, Urological, Gynaecological, ENT and Ophthalmology lists, as well as to the Accident and Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit, Delivery Suite and Maternity unit, and the Acute and Chronic Pain Service. Involvement may also be required in the initial resuscitation and stabilisation of the critically ill child.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitments are 10 PAs (8.5 DCC+ 1.5 SPA) where additional SPAs can be considered. The formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee, Clinical Lead for Anaesthesia and Critical Care and Associate Divisional Director, three months after the commencement date of the appointment.

You will be part of the 1:8 on-call rota to cover out-of-hours services in the ITU Department and Maternity Unit.

Along with the resident middle grade, you will be part of the Anaesthesia and ITU on-call rota and we have introduced a flexible hybrid working pattern for our department at our Hinchingbrooke site.

Your main duties will be to provide specific pre-operative assessment, optimisation and preparation of patients undergoing anaesthesia. This will include arranging investigations, making referrals and organising entry onto appropriate pathways as required.

You will participate in governance, audit, risk, quality improvement projects and educational initiatives within the department.

As a senior member of staff, you will participate in teaching and supporting Junior Doctors and other staff groups in their learning and training.
