Job summary

  • The Maternity Care Assistant is a member of the maternity team who will work under the supervision of, and will assist the Registered Midwife in the provision of care to women, their babies and their families.
  • The Maternity Care Assistant will undertake a broad range of activities and is responsible for contributing towards the smooth running of the maternity unit.
  • To oversee stock and maintenance of procurement for antenatal clinics
  • To support information sharing with women and families
  • Promote and maintain a care environment that is clean, tidy and reduces risks of health care acquired infections.

Main duties of the job

  • Act as a role model to all unit staff
  • Promote patient wellbeing and safety
  • Promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary team
  • Promote and maintain a safe environment
  • Maintain patient documentation relating to care given by yourself in accordance with Trust guidelines, and promote accurate documentation within the team

  • Prioritise and organise own delegated workload
  • Work within the limitations of your role
  • To act as a patients advocate when required
  • Accurately and promptly carry out the delegated tasks as directed by registered midwife/nurse who are professionally accountable for the delivery of care.

  • Chaperone/ escort women to other clinical departments under the direction of the midwife
