Job summary
To support and deputise (on a rotation basis with other Band 7's) for the Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk in implementing, monitoring and co-ordinating all aspects of risk management activity, specifically clinical risk management within the Trust ensuring that systems and processes are in place for continuous improvement in quality and safety.
The post holder is required to assist the Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk in obtaining, collating and analysing information using root cause analysis for incident investigations and to ensure that delegated tasks are actioned in the absence of the Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk.
The post holder will be required to support the Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk in embedding Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) 2022, launched by NHSE. PSIRF seeks to support healthcare providers to ensure robust systems are in place for reporting, investigating, and responding to Serious Incidents.
To work with allocated Clinical Division in order to undertake and embed Patient Safety Investigations Reports (PSII's).
Main duties of the job
- Work with divisions to participate in clinical investigations, ensuring robust clinical risk management systems are in place, write and communicate high standard reports using root cause analysis on the findings of investigations
- Use clinical judgement to ensure that the Datix risk management software system is monitored appropriately and that appropriate sign off reported incidents has occurred and potential serious incidents are escalated appropriately
- Liaise and collaborate with other specialists such as the Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk on safety and quality matters
- Support the development and delivery of any Trust wide quality and patient safety initiatives where required
- Represent the Clinical Risk Management department at internal and external meeting
Clinical and Patient Care:
The post holder will:-
- Maintain own clinical knowledge and competencies required to undertake clinical investigations and maintain clinical credibility including NMC registration
- Develop and maintain links with other departments in order to integrate risk management into all aspects of patient care
- Organise own workload, ensuring deadlines are observed and duties performed efficiently
- Meet regularly with the relevant staff from the division to support in the investigation and update on investigations as well as Head of Complaints and Clinical Risk to review and ensure actions implemented in respect of SI action plans .
