Job summary

An ideal opportunity for an individual to join the Clinical Education team with a core focus on Continuing Professional Development within the Surgical teams at Royal Papworth Hospital.

5 North is a 41 bedded cardiothoracic surgical ward, specialising in heart and lung transplantation, pulmonary thrombo endarterectomy and artificial heart devices. 5 South is a 35 bedded cardiothoracic surgical ward, specialising in Thoracic surgery Cardiac surgery and Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy.

To support staff and learners in their clinical environment across a spectrum of patient pathways. In partnership with Clinical Educators and local clinical leads, to ensure the planning, delivering, and evaluation of professional development opportunities relative to peri and post operative/intervention care while effectively communicating with learners, patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To provide guidance and support to staff and learners, fostering the professional development of clinical and technical skills in close cooperation with clinical area leads and line managers.

To work in the clinical areas to support new starters or those requiring additional input as agreed using learning contracts, action plans and approved assessment tools.

To be able to undertake a clinical role in the department, providing direct patient care, support the nursing team and enhancing respective skill mix and maintaining the highest standards of patient care, safety and operational efficiency.

To identify, support design and deliver quality clinical skills and development training programs relevant to an individual's area of practice/program of study/defined assessment program, including local induction, competence training and assessment and enablement of ongoing professional development.

  • Professional clinical registration in Nursing, Allied Healthcare Professional, Pharmacy or Healthcare Science with associated qualification and clinical knowledge acquired through training to diploma or degree level.
  • PLUS post graduate learning and professional experience to post graduate diploma level (or equivalent) relevant to practice/post, with demonstrable competence OR specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
