Job summary

The Trust currently supports 70+ volunteers and has an active recruitment programme. This is a part time role, and you will be a member of our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who have an onsite office and lead the overall volunteer service. You will be the operational lead for the volunteer service at the hospital.

As the Trust's ambassador for volunteering, you will develop collaborative working relationships with staff across the organisation to identify and translate new volunteer opportunities into successful outcomes which support the Trust values. You will oversee and manage the provision and delivery of efficient and effective volunteer services.

Main duties of the job

You will act as the nominated line manager for all volunteers and build on the continuous improvement of the team, ensuring volunteers are effectively supported to make a valued contribution towards our patient experience whilst in hospital. This will include undertaking all tasks in relation to the recruitment and management of volunteers, promoting the volunteer service both internally and externally.

You will work unsupervised and act independently to manage own workload, referring to line manager (when necessary), working to provide a positive experience by providing enriching volunteering opportunities and support for volunteers, who in turn provide support to our patients and their families.

The post is suitable for individuals with a proficient understanding of NHS volunteer services and with experience of a range of administrative processes, being able to prioritise, plan and organise own work and that of others. Experience of managing difficult situations using excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a clear ability to liaise, mediate and negotiate to a satisfactory resolution is essential.

This post is for 15 hours per week. A preferable working pattern would be Monday/ Tuesday 0800-1600 or 0830-1600, or 3 x 5-hour shifts - Monday/Tuesday/Friday.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent of attainment through further experience or training with a good level of volunteering experience.
