Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Education Sister/Charge Nurse Secondment in our Critical Care team at Royal Papworth Hospital.

As a member of CCA Education, you will co-lead the Critical Care education team in delivering in-service training, education and experienced specialist support to CCA staff and visiting students. Take responsibility, with the Critical Care Lead Nurse, to ensure all aspects of patient care and critical care services are of the highest standard.

You will have a scope of knowledge to act as a competent Cardiac Surgery Specialist.

You will have NMC registration and provide evidence of continued professional development to degree level. With effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as recent Cardiothoracic Critical Care experience at band six or above, you will be proficient in staff development, supervision and teaching. Together with the senior team (Nurse Consultant, CCA Matron and CCA Lead Nurse), you will be required to assist in the day-to-day management of the Critical Care Area.

Main duties of the job

*Act as a role model both in clinical expertise and leadership, the role will entail 80% educational time and 20% clinical time.

*Actively promote workplace as a learning environment, encouraging everyone to learn from each other and from external good practice.

*Alert CCA Leadership team to resource issues which affect learning development and performance.

*Plan the provision of the CCA education programme by a combination of bedside and classroom teaching. Regularly evaluate effectiveness and efficiency and modify as required.

*Ensure statutory and mandatory training is included in education programmes for all staff in CCA with accurate attendance records maintained.

*Develop, implement, and maintain medical device competencies for all equipment used within critical care, as well as clinical competencies. Lead in training and assessment of all staff and ensuring appropriate documentation is completed.

*Lead teaching team ensuring all new starters are well supported in making transition from supernumerary to supervised and then independent nurses on critical care. Ensure all appraisals and development meetings are documented.

*Work collaboratively with the Trust CPD nurses and actively contribute to Trust teaching and development programme.

*Work with external education providers and institutions to ensure education is of the highest standard and staff have appropriate access to these.

*Support students and staff, providing pastoral support and signposting to appropriate services.
