An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative, dynamic and highly motivated professional, who is passionate about Health and Safety and Risk.

As the successful post holder, you will be responsible for providing specialist advice, guidance and training regarding Health and Safety and Risk Management. You will ensure that the Trust continues to meet and exceed its statutory obligations and support operational managers, both clinical and non-clinical, to enable them to undertake their responsibilities locally. A sound understanding of the Care Quality Commission regulations and requirements would also be beneficial.

Main duties of the job

The Health and Safety Risk Manager will support the Trust with the effective delivery and development of Health and Safety and Risk management to ensure that a consistent approach to Health and Safety and Risk is taken (underpinned by standardised processes and polices) while promoting a positive health and safety and risk culture.

This includes leading on health and safety audits and workplace inspection programmes; investigating incidents, accidents and near misses; undertaking complex risk assessments; providing risk management advice; developing and implementing a comprehensive communications plan; working with Enforcement Agencies and delivering health and safety and risk training programmes.

The post holder will also, with the support of the team:

Be responsible for managing the Trust's Risk Management Strategy and policy on behalf of the Chief Nurse and Trust Managers.

Act as the Trust's Medical Device Liaison Officer.

Manage the reporting, investigation and learning from adverse clinical & non-clinical incidents and monitoring of action plans.

Provide support, advice and leadership on clinical and non-clinical risk management.

Be responsible for non-clinical insurance claims in liaison with the NHS Resolution.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Safety & Health -- Level 6 Diploma (IOSH/NE) or equivalent.
  • Membership of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
  • Evidence of CPD.

Desirable

  • Institute of Risk Management (IRM) Certificate
  • Datix certified professional (training can be provided).
  • Management/Leadership qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant recent experience of providing health & safety advice within a healthcare organisation (or close equivalent).
  • Experience of undertaking complex risk assessments and implementing risk control measures.
  • Experience of delivering communication and promotional campaigns to raise awareness and engage staff.
  • Experience of developing and delivering comprehensive training programmes.
  • Experience of developing/reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Experience of writing reports, analysing data and presenting findings.
  • Management Experience.
  • Track record of working with senior managers, clinicians and leaders.
