Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen where we are now looking for an experienced Transplant Retrieval nurse to lead a highly specialised Transplant Retrieval nursing team. We are looking for an individual who is an experienced nurse in the field of Cardiothoracic Transplantation. The candidate must be already practicing at Band 7 or 8 levels. We need someone professional and highly motivated to provide the nursing team with clinical leadership and innovation in looking at new ways to develop the teams and solidify all the excellent work that has already been achieved to take this team into the next chapter at Royal Papworth Hospital.

The post offers many opportunities to develop and shape the service and contribute to the senior leadership team across the Surgical, Transplant and Anaesthetic Division.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Head of Nursing for the Surgical, Transplant and Anaesthetic Division, you will ensure partnership working within and across teams in promoting service development. You will be visible and supportive to the teams and empower them to develop. As a lead nurse, you will ensure service standards and guidance are achieved. You will coordinate a comprehensive and integrated service alongside the multidisciplinary team.

Providing clinical and managerial leadership to the Transplant nursing team, ensuring high standards of care are achieved in service delivery with the smooth running and development of the team. You will participate in and lead audits and contribute to audits and research locally, nationally and internationally. You will actively participate in mentoring and educating the team and the wider nursing workforce and participate in the on-call Transplant rota. You will also actively support the ongoing development of Transplant services within the organisation alongside the senior management team in line with Trust priorities and national guidance. The role will involve working corporately to deliver specific nursing strategies across the Trust to ensure that the Transplantation speciality is considered.

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced Clinical assessment course.
  • Non-Medical prescribing course.
  • To have attended a National organ retrieval service masterclass.

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification.

  • Leadership and managerial expertise (demonstrable evidence of able to manage a team).
  • Proven experience of working within the National organ retrieval service Transplant team (NORS).
  • Ability to interpret clinical information and report as appropriate.

  • Proven experience of undertaking audits, Serious Untoward Incidences and change management skills.
