Job summary

Applications are invited for a 12 month clinical research fellow post, which offers an opportunity to support ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease) clinical trials. The group has an active research programme in domains from preclinical bench science through to applied experimental medicine and population science. The post-holder will gain experience in the management of patients with ILD, including attending the MDT, doing a weekly clinic and assisting the clinical team where needed. Applicants will be required to hold MRCP or equivalent and have experience in thoracic medicine at specialist trainee level.

Main duties of the job

1.The one - year post will provide the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in ILD clinical trials (phase 1, 2 and 3). This will be to support clinical trials (within the HLRI) in diseases including (but not limited to): Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis, Connective Tissue ILDs, Rare Lung ILDs. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the research profile of the unit work with the team to support ILD related research, as part of an agreed research programme, and to contribute to audit activities.

2.Participate in management of patients in the ILD unit under the directions of consultant(s). This provides a unique opportunity to gain understanding of the range of the diseases presenting as ILDs.

3.Participate in the work-up and investigations of those patients; develop ability to formulate an appropriate plan of both routine and emergency management of these patients.

4.The post holder will function as the member of the multi-disciplinary ILD teams.

5.Contribute to the training of junior doctors in accordance with standards required by the Royal College, Postgraduate Dean and hospital.

6.Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development.
